Parent Support Group
We appreciate that parents can feel isolated when dealing with their child's complex needs; we also understand that we are a school for these pupils, and as such give parents the opportunity to form friendships at the school gate.
Sometimes, the biggest form of support is from those that have had similar experiences and, as a result, can offer advice and understanding. In order to provide a mechanism for the development of our community, we hold a Parent Support Group. In this group, parents meet to discuss a wide range of issues related to their child's education. Topics of discussion have included teenagers and puberty in Autistic children and external support available to families. When we are able, we will invite guest speakers both from within and outside the organisation.
These sessions run once a term during the school day or at the end of the day. We realise that this limits the parents that can attend, but we try to vary the times they are offered to make them available to the widest range of parents.
