Remote Learning

Remote Learning Statement

REMOTE LEARNING

Since the Coronavirus Covid-19 global pandemic, all schools are required to provide remote education enabling pupils to continue to learn from home in the event they are not able to attend the school site. Our sister school, Roman Fields remained open throughout the pandemic. As such, the vast majority of our learning is delivered in classrooms, in person. However, we also view remote learning as an opportunity to further engage our pupils when they are unable to attend, as a result of self-isolation, or other illness.

ACCESS

All pupils have a Microsoft Outlook account, which is linked to the school, and it is through the calendar feature of this that they can use Microsoft Teams, to join lessons remotely.

IF MY CHILD DOES NOT HAVE DIGITAL OR ONLINE ACCESS AT HOME, HOW WILL YOU SUPPORT THEM TO ACCESS REMOTE EDUCATION?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. If your child does not have a laptop, or cannot access a laptop (or other suitable device) connected to the internet at home the school will endeavour to issue a loaned device for use at home. Please contact the school office. If for any reason electronic remote learning is not appropriate for your family, please contact the teacher who will provide alternative resources.

AIMS OF REMOTE LEARNING

  • We have reproduced our timetable virtually, enabling all pupils to access the entirety of their academic lessons from home.

  • Pupils are expected to have their cameras and microphones on (unless this is identified as problematic in their EHCP); if this is the case communication will be maintained via the chat function.

  • We expect pupils to put learning first, by fully engaging with the work.

  • SAFEGUARDING PROTOCOL FOR LIVE TEACHING VIA REMOTE LEARNING

  • Pupils and staff are only to use their academy logins to communicate with each other.

  • No personal information is to be shared.

  • Pupils and staff will continue to maintain high levels of professionalism, and treat any online lesson in the same way as they would treat a normal classroom lesson. This includes using appropriate language.

  • Pupils may not take screenshots or video recordings of their live/virtual lessons. The teacher who is running the live lesson may take a recording of part/all of the session (e.g. to share a demo video that students can re-watch).

  • Staff will consider the needs of pupils
